Bringing a new meaning to the phrase “on the Black Market.”
The city’s latest marketplace and hipster hangout is set to open up today after months of work by the owners, whose stated goal is to create “something different” for the people of Cork.
Soma Coffee Company is set to open its second location, Soma 2, in Cork’s new Black Market at noon. The official opening will feature music by legendary Cork DJ Stevie G, as well as Viracc.
The new, and very aesthetically pleasing, Black Market site is located at Mainport, Monaghan Road, and will feature local coffee and food stalls. Also confirmed for the site is delicious Mexican food provider Brendan’s Burritos, a staple of Cork markets and festivals since 2009.
Black Market said of the deal: “Great to meet people who have the same vision of what our market is, which is bringing people together organically enjoying great food.”
As for Soma, the group said: “These people know coffee and roast their own, from their offering of high scoring coffee to scones, pastry’s and lunchtime offering with seating both inside and outside the market itself. They are all about Cork and supporting their own.”
Comprised of storage containers, everything inside the market has been painted black, which will doubtlessly make it a huge hit on Instagram. Check it out from 12pm today (Friday, 3rd September).
