Are you tired of wearing the same old outfits?
As the days grow chillier, now is the perfect time to break out of a style rut.
If you don’t know where to start, fear not: professional help is at hand at Cork’s premier fashion destination; stylist and image consultant Breeda O’Connell is now taking appointments on Opera Lane.
Whether it’s a formal wedding outfit or a new ‘mix-and-match wardrobe for the return to the office, working with a stylist takes the guesswork out of putting a look together. No more wandering the aisles, getting distracted by glittery handbags; with a pro in tow, your eyes are always kept firmly on the prize.
And Breeda is the perfect shopping companion; an accomplished make-up artist, the style maven followed her fashion calling after she became a mum.
“The love of clothes, style, and makeup – and an appreciation of their power – has always just been a part of who I am,” Breeda told Yay Cork.
“I found this to be particularly true when I became a mother, especially when I had my twin boys when my daughter was just three years old.
“Clothes and makeup became a crutch and a way to maintain a link to myself at this time of change, when I was losing touch with who I was, having had my life completely flipped on its head.”
Inspired by one of her favourite quotes, ‘No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up and never give up’, Breeda decided to forge a new career path.
“Around the time of my 40th birthday, I had stopped work temporarily and I was in ‘taking stock’ mode. My thoughts kept turning to my love of style and this dream to work in some area of styling kept niggling at me. I saw an advert for Joan Cashman’s Colour & Image Academy, so I went ahead and completed two intensive courses with Joan, the first in Style & Image, and the second in Colour & Make-Up, making me a fully qualified Image Consultant.”
Since then, Breeda has worked in every area of the industry, from TV fashion slots and events to private client consultations, also building her online business BOC Image Consulting during the lockdown.
“I feel my role at Opera Lane is the perfect compliment to my own business – I bring all my knowledge and expertise to the client and their shopping experience; and they give me continuous new insights into the challenges women experience with dressing, shopping, and putting outfits together,” she said.
Why work with a stylist?
Many people mistakenly believe that shopping with a stylist is expensive. In fact, booking a styling session with Breeda on Opera Lane is completely free and there’s absolutely no obligation to buy anything.
By adding some focus to your fashion-finding mission, you might even find you save money you may have splurged on items that would have gathered dust in your wardrobe.
