Richie Herlihy reviews Cork’s best (and worst) chippers so you don’t have to

Cork’s food scene sets the standard nationally.
From hidden gems to Michelin-starred marvels, it’s not until you’ve left the county bounds that you realise just how spoiled for choice we are here on Leeside.
Walk down any street in the city and you’ll come across a variety of restaurants, one better than the next. But choosing can be difficult and branching out beyond your favourite haunts can be a risky move.
That’s where Richie Herlihy comes in: the Corkman has made it his life’s mission to check out and taste test the munch from takeaways and restaurants all over the city, making him a huge hit online with Leesiders and food enthusiasts from across the globe.
Northsider Richie, whose page Richie’s Food and Nature has amassed a tasty 79,500 followers on TikTok, 11,400 on Instagram, and 26,000 on Facebook, has made it big dishing out honest, sometimes gushing, sometimes highly critical reviews on his socials.
“Before my videos I always loved cooking, and I’d always go somewhere with beautiful scenery and cook, so now I just do it on video,” explained Richie, who often takes off into the wilderness to create a gigantic chicken roll or craft a riverside meal for himself and his buddies.
And he doesn’t shy away from telling it how it is, especially when it comes to bad munch, which is one of the reasons his videos are so popular, apart from the Cork accent of course.
“I love calling out places that serve shite food too, nothing worse than paying for shite food,” he insisted.
