Pop superstar Rihanna just featured a Cork artist’s rap song in a new ad campaign

The track was laid down and forgotten 18 years ago.
But a catchy rap song written and recorded by a Cork artist just appeared in a new ad campaign for pop superstar Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty.
The Barbadian pop and R&B singer, one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, appears to have uncovered the strange little song, written in 2006 by Cork city artist Niamh McCartney and Scottish DJ Ross Matthew Birchard, better known by the stage name Hudson Mohawke, in an online mixtape.
It was sampled with permission from the label and it’s now the track in an ad for Rihanna’s new line of Pencil Lip Liners and Dragon Fruit Treatz Lip Oil, which just dropped at Fenty Beauty, the performer’s wildly successful inclusive beauty company.
The ad has received the thumbs-up from more than 800,000 Rihanna fans:

“I wrote and performed an obscure chipmunk rap tune many years ago now with my pal Ross (Hudson Mohawke) and Rihanna just used it for her latest Fenty beauty ad campaign. I am still pinching myself.” Niamh McCartney told Yay Cork.

Niamh is currently working on a folky pop album under her stage name Sonsie – you can check out her Instagram feed for updates.
