On Winthrop Street, this late-night cafe is hosting a coffee-fuelled chess night

It’s tricky being a non-drinker in Ireland.
Alcohol still tends to be at the centre of our social lives and if you’re looking for a booze-free night out, there really isn’t a huge choice of options.
As more venues scramble for ideas on how to cater to a growing number of non-drinking Corkonians, Eco Cafe has announced its first-ever Chess Night.
“Next Sunday the 11th we will be running our first chess night,” the Winthrop Street cafe posted on Instagram.
Players can either bring their own board or call ahead to book one from the crew, with a generous offer on the night:
“You can bring your own boards or message us to reserve one ahead of time. We will be offering 2-for-1 on ALL hot drinks between 8pm and 10pm. So whether you are spectating or playing why not pop along for a hot drop.”

Games are a great way to bond and an easy way to have fun, so if you’re fond of the odd game of chess or master of the board, this could make a memorable date.
Eco Cafe Chess night takes place on Sunday, September 11th. The cafe is located on Winthrop St, Centre, Cork.
