It’s the ultimate Paddy’s Day dinner.
Now a video featuring Kerry-born chef John Relihan’s recipe for his Mammy’s bacon and cabbage, shot by Cork filmmaker Kilian Pettit, has gone viral after it was shared by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver in honour of St Patrick’s Day.
John put his own twist on the traditional Irish dish; cooking it over an open fire, in a century-old pot. The video was shot in a rural Irish cottage – the perfect setting for a special clip that will be seen by Jamie’s online community around the world.

“I’ve been working on a TV project idea with John since last year. His passion for food is infectious,” said Kilian, who is also a RedFM DJ.
“The feedback on our online videos to date has been fantastic.”
John Relihan trained at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen in London, and has subsequently worked in San Francisco, as well as back in Ireland in restaurants in both Cork and Dublin.
Speaking about the quintessential Irish dish, the chef said one of the reasons he loves bacon and cabbage is because his mother used to cook it for him when he was a kid:
“The turf, the wood, the aroma in the room. The bacon in the pot, the bubbling of the cabbage and the potatoes. This was my childhood.” Relihan said.
