Hundreds of furries are taking over Cork for a massive sold-out convention

Don’t panic.
If you happen to spot a fox ordering a latte or a wolf checking into a hotel in Cork in the coming days, relax – it’s probably just AnthroIrish weekend.
Ireland’s original furry convention, AnthroIrish, is set to take over The Metropole Hotel on August 1st and 2nd, 2026 – and organisers are promising their biggest and fluffiest gathering yet. In fact, all of the €70 two-day admission tickets are sold out.
For the uninitiated, a furry convention celebrates anthropomorphic art and characters — think expertly crafted animal costumes, digital artists, performers and fans who enjoy expressing themselves through larger-than-life personas. In short: it’s colourful, it’s creative, and yes, it’s very wholesome.
Launched in 2023, AnthroIrish has steadily grown into a full-blown celebration of art, creativity and community. Last year’s 2025 event drew 300 registrations, with attendees travelling from across Ireland (and beyond) for a weekend packed with in-house panels, a fiercely competitive pub quiz, meet-and-greets with the guest of honour and more tail-wagging energy than Cork city centre knew what to do with.
And it’s not just about the fun. The 2025 event raised €1,000 for local charity Homeless Help and Support Cork, proving there’s plenty of heart beneath the fur.
With even bigger plans already in motion for 2026, organisers say attendees can expect more events, more guests and more chances to connect with a growing community that prides itself on inclusivity and creativity.
