There are few things worthy of an extra-early alarm.
But a very good breakfast is one of them.
Whether you’re meeting someone to share the first meal of the day with or simply hoping for a quiet moment to yourself before the daily grind starts grinding, an excellent breakfast might even be a better bet than lunch when it comes to doing something nice for yourself.
Tempted to ditch the sheets ahead of schedule this week?
There’s a new menu at Proby’s Kitchen on Proby’s Quay and their brekkie options will blow your tired old Cornflakes out of the water.
Consider this: Organic porridge oats with poached pear and pistachio, house toasted nut and seed mix, banana and honeycomb.
With a bowl of that in your belly, how could you not have a top-notch day?
If it’s a savoury start you’re after, there are field mushrooms and feta toast, sprinkled with dukkah or harissa eggs with a dollop of avocado smash and cavolo nero (that’s a green, like kale) on sourdough toast.
Mid-break-up? The Coconut French Toast. Near break-down? Ricotta Pancakes.

“Early birds get the best breakfast.” the Proby’s team, led by Marianne and Denis from Café Gusto and Liberty Grill, along with Pat Browne, formerly of Ballymaloe Cookery School, posted on Instagram.
“Our fresh new cafe menu awaits early risers from 8am to 10am, featuring a selection of smaller, nutritious options perfect for busy weekdays.”
You can preorder or drop by for takeaway of course, but the real joy is in taking a little table for a sit-down breakfast in the cosy restaurant.
They open at 8am daily but be warned, you may never sleep-in again.
