Nothing helps quiet the mind like music.
And there is something especially calming about the handpan drum; rhythmically played with just the touch of a finger, releasing a cloud of calming energy.
The handpan is often used in yoga and meditation sessions or as a part of a sound therapy practice as a way to help people unwind at the end of a yoga class.
This week, Collective Cork has announced the return of personal trainer and yoga teacher Paula Vermeulen and handpan drummer Lis Criostoir for an evening of yoga and meditation in the Tobin Street studio on Wednesday, August 17th, 2022.
“We’ll start the event with a simple breathing technique and give you time to explore each pose as you remain aware of your breath (yin yoga),” explained Collective Cork on Instagram.
“Then it’s time for an extra long shavasana (yoga nidra) with live tunes. Yoga Nidra is a technique that allows for deep relaxation while staying conscious. Nidra means sleep, but during the practice, one should aim to be between a state of wakefulness and sleep.
Yoga Nidra reduces stress, improves concentration, and memory, and promotes healing.”
