Brews Cruise: 3 adventures to satisfy your coffee cravings at Cork on a Fork Festival

There’s always something brewing in Cork.
In fact, the coffee culture here is so strong that a number of interesting coffee events appear on the schedule for the upcoming Cork on a Fork food festival, which runs from August 16th to 20th, 2023.
From artisanal roasts to cutting-edge brewing techniques, these gatherings are a celebration of all things coffee, lead by some of the city’s most knowledgeable baristas.
The festival also features plenty of fringe entertainment which is best enjoyed with a decent brew in-hand, so it’s a brilliant excuse to try out a new café in an unfamiliar part of town.
Here are three treats for coffee connoisseurs:
- Soma Coffee Cupping & Cocktails
Friday, August 18th, 6pm: Soma, Tuckey Street, €25 here
During this evening of coffee cupping, guests will learn how to taste coffee with Soma’s head roaster and director, who will lead “a relaxed approach to cupping where all can chat, taste, and discuss all things coffee.”
The night will finish with espresso martinis and each ticket holder will receive a bag of coffee of their choice to take home.
- Cornmarket Street (Coal Quay) Market & Play Street
Saturday, August 19th, 10am-12pm: Cornmarket Street, FREE
Like to sip a coffee in peace? A free play street will pop up at the Cornmarket Street Market from 10am-12pm on Saturday, with loads to entertain the kiddos including giant Jenga, Connect Four, corn hole, balance board games, colour catcher games, and a tug of war with the Let’s Play Cork play ambassador.
Grab yourself a takeaway brew at Gloria Jeans on Castle Street, De Calf in the Cornmarket Centre, or Priory Coffee on North Main Street and stroll over. No need to book.
- Make and Taste Three Unique Coffee Roasts
Sunday, August 20th, 12pm: Izz Café, 14 George’s Quay: €55, book here
Izzeddeen, owner of Izz Cafe, will take you through the process of roasting green coffee beans to make three different types of coffee at this fascinating workshop. Guests will also be treated to a copper coffee pot and a coffee bag to take home.
