Feeling a little on edge lately?
If you’re looking for a new way to soothe stress and manage anxiety without leaving the house, a Cork-based breath coach has issued an open invite to his Monday online class.
Renaud Cmela is a certified Wim Hof Method instructor who teaches various breathing techniques at Rathpeacon Community Centre as well as online during the lockdown.
While Wim Hof involves breath work and a bracing plunge into an ice bath (devotees swear it works wonders on the body and mind) Renaud says we could all benefit from some simple breathing techniques that can be done anywhere, any time.

In fact, spending a little time ensuring you are breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth (many of us revert to mouth breathing without realising) can have a marked improvement on anxiety levels.
“Learning to breathe correctly can help in many ways, from dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, boost the immune system, improve performance, focus, among others,” Renaud told Yay Cork.
“Interest has been growing from people lately, especially in the past year with Covid.”
Fancy giving it a go? Renaud’s weekly Mindful Mondays session is free to join and the next one takes place at 7.30am on Monday, March 8th (book in here). He also holds a €5 class on Saturdays, which is available for a very reasonable €5. Check out the full schedule here.
