A Cork company has invented a nifty device for opening doors without touching them

You never know where the virus could be lurking.
As the fight to contain the Covid-19 outbreak in Ireland continues, one Cork company has come up with a novel little invention to reduce everyday contact with surfaces such as doorknobs and door handles, where viruses can potentially last for days.
Pat Dennehy Signs has produced a C19 Handle Aid, a light plastic handle on a retractable lanyard, which can be worn around the neck or on a belt loop when you need to go outdoors.
Of course, we all know handwashing is the best defence against coronavirus, but if there’s an extra step that could potentially reduce the risk for vulnerable people then we’re all ears.
Here’s how it works:
“The idea came from continuously having to disinfect door handles every day at our own premises.” Brian Devane of Pat Dennehy Signs told Yay Cork.
“We had a bit of a brainstorming session and designed a few prototypes with the current one being the most effective. We then felt they could possibly help frontline workers in hospitals and care homes.”
The company hopes to partner with another local business with a CNC or laser cutting machine to produce the C19 Handle Aid for free for health workers.
“We are willing to share our file design with them to keep producing them,” said Mr Devane.

For now, Pat Dennehy Signs are selling the C19 Handle Aid in packs of four. You can order a pack on 021 4311607 or by emailing sales@pdsigns.ie.
