5 of the most delicious Cork Valentine’s Day feast boxes to book now

By Katie Mythen-Lynch February 9, 2021February 9, 2021

Staying in is the new going out.

And this week, Cork’s most creative chefs have been working overtime to create Valentine’s Day meal experiences that bring the romantic restaurant vibe home.

From a waffle and pancake brunch with bubbles to a five-course gourmet feast, this year you can order everything to go on Sunday, February 14th.

While we do hope the candlelit restaurant is back on the agenda next year, celebrating in your living room does have its benefits: there’s no need for a babysitter or a taxi home and you can mark the occasion in your PJs.

Here are five brilliant fancy food boxes that are guaranteed to impress the love of your life:

1. THE BOOZY PANCAKE BRUNCH

Down on Washington Street, Dwyer’s is packing up their pancake and waffle sharing board so fans can enjoy it at home – with all the toppings.

Their Valentine’s Brunch Box (€60) is available for collection on Saturday, February 13th so there’ll be no need to leave the house on Valentine’s morning. Each box serves two and you can add in a couple of bottles of Prosecco or a mix of Dwyer’s best-selling cocktails or go for an alcohol-free option.

Get your order in before Friday morning by sending them a DM on Instagram or Facebook.

2. THE FANCY FIVE-COURSE FEAST

Fresh from their sell-out pop-up dinners on a cliff edge in West Cork, local chef, Davitt Conroy and his wife Anna are launching a new weekly Meal Box – launching just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The five-course heat-at-home menu features an amuse bouche of Butternut Wellington and Glensallagh Gardens Italian kale lemon parmesan, ‘Grilled and Chilled Scallops’ with wakame salad to start and a ‘Turf and Surf’ main course: 12oz Twomeys Black Angus Loin Steak, grilled langoustine with lime and garlic, grilled asparagus, sweet potato puree and chimichurri.

Wowza.

The Valentine’s Day box is €75 with subsequent menus priced at €60, available in a limited quantity weekly with pickup points from Schull to Cork City. Check out the full menu and place your order here.

3. THE DECADENT DESSERT BOX

Who needs dinner when you can go straight for dessert? Thompsons  Restaurant and Microbrewery on MacCurtain Street is packing up €20 Homemade Valentine’s Day Dessert Boxes this weekend.

The box is stuffed with brownies, macaroons, chocolate-dipped strawberries, honeycomb, a chocolate-filled heart and a selection of caramel and chocolate sauces for dipping. You can add a bottle of Prosecco to your order for €35 and the boxes will be available for collection on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, February 14th, from 10am. Place your order here.

4.BREAKFAST IN BED FROM CAFE VELO

Wake up before your other half on Valentine’s Day and you could nip down and collect a romantic breakfast for two before they open their eyes.

On George’s Quay, Café Velo’s €40 luxury breakfast includes a bottle of bubbles, four pastries and a choice of breakfasts: French toast, the Full Velo, eggs Benedict, eggs royale or wild mushroom on toast with poached eggs, truffle oil and goats cheese.

The Valentine’s Breakfast will be served from 10am – 3:30pm on Sunday, February 14th and it’s pre-order only so drop them a message on Instagram or Facebook to get your order in.

5. LOVE IN LOCKDOWN AT MARKET LANE

At Market Lane on Oliver Plunkett Street you can order their Valentine’s Weekend Heat At Home Box until 3pm on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021. The €50 menu serves two, with a choice of slow-cooked short rib of Allshire Farm beef in a sticky red wine and treacle sauce, free-range spatchcock chicken with garlic, sage and real chicken gravy or wild mushroom pie for mains.

Sides include cheesy cauliflower bake with hazelnut crumb, thyme roast rooster potatoes and tender stem broccoli with lemon and seaweed butter, with a chocolate and honeycomb brownie, lemon tart or gluten-free chocolate and raspberry verrine for dessert.

Collection is available from Friday, February 12th to Sunday 14th (3pm–7pm). Order here.
